Tree & Shrub Mulching
Mulch placed around the base of a tree or shrub helps maintain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and minimize competition from grass and weeds. It helps improve soil conditions over time by increasing aeration, improving structure, and restoring nutrient levels. Mulch also reduces the chance of a tree or shrub being damaged by a weed whacker or lawn mower, since there is no grass to cut in the mulched area, and it improves landscape aesthetics. For maximum health benefits, mulching should be combined with aeration, fertilization, and other parts of our Soil Improvement Program.
With all its benefits, it is no wonder that mulching is widely considered to be one of the easiest ways to increase the health of a tree or shrub. At Golden Leaf Tree Experts we offer mulching services for our clients in all of Northern Utah. We will be happy to send one of our educated arborists to meet with you in order to evaluate your plants and determine which will benefit from mulching.
Although the concept of mulching is straight forward, it is important that mulch be applied properly. If the wrong mulch is used, if the mulch is too deep, or if the mulch is piled against the side of the trunk (this is referred to as a “mulch volcano”), then it will harm the tree. As a matter of fact, mulch volcanoes account for many tree deaths each year.
Whether you are interested in mulching only, or would like to combine it with other services such as landscape design, soil aeration and fertilization, contact us today and we will send one of our knowledgeable arborists to meet with you!
